Designing Games for Focus: How Game Mechanics Can Support ADHD
- Jaanvi Tadipatri
Abstract
This paper discusses how different game mechanics can help lessen the effects of an individual’s ADHD over time. ADHD is a mental condition that creates problems with attention, impulse control as well as high energy, and it disrupts performance at school, work, and social life. Common treatments use medication or therapy; both come with side effects and limited access. Recent progress in technology has led to the development of mobile games centered around mind exercises in order to help with ADHD. Those games ask users to complete tasks that work on attention, control as well as memory. The scientific reasons for using mobile games as treatment will be explained using research studies and personal cases that reveal some positive differences.
