Abstract

The question of what makes a Kasambahay remain employed in a specific household is explored in this research. Specifically, hygiene factors and motivators are identified through qualitative methods. Utilizing the Indigenous Filipino methods of pakikipagkwentuhan and ginabayang talakayan, focus group discussions are conducted with a representative sampling of 2 groups of kasambahays and two groups of household leaders. From these discussions, hygiene factors and motivators, called Correspondence Factors in this research, are posited. These are then anchored within the 5-factor model of personality, situating factors and motivators according to related personality traits. From the resulting data, a preliminary Kasambahay-Household Correspondence Scale is drafted, and its psychometric properties are established.
