About Journal

Higher Education Studies (HES) is an international, double-anonymized peer-reviewed open-access journal published by the Canadian Center of Science and Education. The journal publishes original research articles, applied studies, and educational papers covering diverse areas within higher education.

Authors are encouraged to submit complete, original, unpublished manuscripts that are not under review by any other journal. All published articles are freely available online.

Focus and Scope

Higher Education Studies publishes theoretical, empirical, applied, and educational scholarship on postsecondary learning, institutions, and systems. Areas of interest include teaching and learning innovation; curriculum, assessment, and educational evaluation; student development, engagement, and well-being; academic staff development and teaching effectiveness; policy, governance, leadership, and organizational culture; quality assurance and accreditation; finance and resource management; internationalization and cross-cultural practice; technology-enabled education and administration; and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Research articles should define a higher-education problem, use a transparent design, and explain the significance of the findings beyond the immediate setting. Systematic reviews must report search, selection, and appraisal methods; concise critical reviews must define their literature boundary and produce an evaluative synthesis. Hypothesis and conceptual papers should develop a coherent, researchable proposition. Educational articles and institutional case studies are eligible when they evaluate a documented practice and derive transferable lessons for postsecondary education.

Interdisciplinary work from psychology, management, economics, health, or information technology must keep a higher-education question central.

K–12 studies, general workplace training, promotional program descriptions, and studies that use university participants only as a convenient sample are outside scope.
