Abstract
Optimal physical fitness is a fundamental requirement for youth athletes to execute technical skills efficiently. The objective of this study was to investigate and compare the immediate and short-term effects of Traditional Thai Massage (TTM) and Sports Massage (SM) on the physical fitness of male youth football players in Buriram Province. The participants consisted of 36 male youth players, divided into three groups (n = 12 per group): a control group (regular training only), a Sports Massage group, and a Traditional Thai Massage group 2. Assessments were conducted at three intervals: pre-massage, immediately post-massage, and after a short-term period. Key performance indicators included a 50-meter sprint, 40-yard dash (agility), sit-and-reach test (flexibility), and blood lactate levels3. The results indicated that both TTM and SM groups showed statistically significant improvements in 50-meter sprint times (p < 0.05), agility, and flexibility compared to the control group. Furthermore, a decreasing trend in blood lactate levels was observed. Notably, there was no significant difference between the outcomes of the two massage groups4. In conclusion, both Traditional Thai Massage and Sports Massage are effective interventions for enhancing physical fitness and recovery in youth football athletes. Crucially, the study highlights Traditional Thai Massage as a cost-effective, accessible alternative that can be integrated into school-based physical education and sports training curriculums to optimize athlete development with limited resources.
