Study on the Need for Supervision to Enhance the Management of English for Communication Teaching and Learning for Teachers in Schools, Expand Educational Opportunities Affiliated to the Office of the Basic Education Commission

Abstract

The goals of this study were 1) to study the components and indicators of supervision to improve Communicative English instruction for teachers; 2) to explore current condition and desired condition of the communicative approach to English teaching for teachers in schools. There were 2 phases of research: Phase 1: To study the supervision to improve Communicative English instruction for teachers; Purposive sampling was used to identify seven experts as informants qualified to validate the supervision model’s components and indicators. Phase 2: to explore the current condition and desired condition of supervision to improve teachers’ communicative English teaching in the Office of the Basic Education Commission’s expansion schools. English teachers and school administrators were all included in the sample. 411 informants in all were chosen through a multi-stage random sampling process. Questionnaires served as research tools. Assessment forms, interview forms, and data analysis statistics like mean and standard deviation, priority sorting of PNImodified data, and content analysis. The finding found that; (1) The Office of the Basic Education Commission’s expansion schools’ supervisory components and indicators for improving communicative English instruction included four components and ten indicators: 1) Plan(P), which has three indicators. 2) Supervision(S), which has two indications. 3) Evaluation (E) with three indicators, and 4) Apply(A) with two indicators. The suitability and possibility evaluation findings were at the highest level. (2) The supervision was currently at a high level to improve the teaching for every component. The desired condition was at its peak. In terms of requirements, it was discovered that the Plan-P component was ranked first, followed by the Evaluation, Application, and Supervision aspects, in that order. In conclusion, the Plan-P component was given priority for its highest appropriateness and utility in the study, which focused on a structured supervision framework to improve Communicative English teaching.
