Abstract
The sesquiterpene cacalol, isolated from the root of Cacalia deposita A, Gray, exhibits important biological activities (anti-inflamatory, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-microbial etc) and therefore several routes have been developed to achieve the synthesis of cacalol. The applications of several organic reactions have been observed during the synthesis of cacalol. The synthesis of optical active cacalol has also been accomplished.
