English Language and Literature Studies (ELLS) is an international, double-anonymized peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Canadian Center of Science and Education. The journal publishes original research articles, theoretical essays, review articles, and pedagogical studies in the fields of English linguistics, literatures written in English, translation studies, sociolinguistics, and related interdisciplinary areas.

Authors are encouraged to submit complete, original, unpublished manuscripts that are not under review by any other journal. All published articles are freely available online.

Focus and Scope

English Language and Literature Studies is a forum for rigorous research on English linguistics, literatures in English, and the productive interface between them. The journal considers work on language structure and use; discourse and pragmatics; corpus, cognitive, historical, and sociolinguistics; world Englishes and multilingualism; literary history, theory, narrative, poetics, genre, and interpretation; translation involving English; and stylistic or cognitive approaches to literary texts.

Applied language studies, second-language acquisition, English language teaching, and translation pedagogy are eligible when they articulate a clear linguistic question and contribute findings beyond a single classroom. Digital humanities, ecocriticism, cultural studies, media studies, gender studies, and postcolonial studies are welcome when English-language data or literatures written in English remain the principal objects of analysis.

The journal publishes research articles, theoretical essays, methodologically grounded pedagogical studies, and critical or systematic reviews. It does not consider generic educational interventions, cultural commentary without sustained textual or linguistic evidence, translation studies with no material English component, purely creative work, or descriptive language surveys lacking an explicit research contribution.
