Yi Costume Inheritance Crisis from the Digital Divide Perspective
- Luyao Wang
Abstract
With the widespread application of Digital Humanities technologies, the protection and dissemination of ethnic costumes have entered a new phase. As an essential component of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage, the inheritance of Yi costume faces both opportunities and challenges in the digital age. Digital means provide unprecedented convenience for the archiving, media display, and cross-regional dissemination of Yi traditional attire. However, while digitization brings opportunities, it also triggers a crisis at the inheritance. Particularly in the Yi concentrated areas, primarily remote mountainous regions, the structural imbalance in network infrastructure and digital skills, which is the Digital Divide, has become the main bottleneck hindering its Cultural Sustainability. This research explores how the multi-level Digital Divide weakens the living vitality of Yi traditional costume, thereby triggering a crisis in its inheritance. Therefore, in the process of digitalization, it is essential to carefully consider its potential negative effects, balancing preservation, dissemination, and transmission, to ensure that technology truly serves the cultural subjects.
