The Impact of Leadership Styles Used by the Academic Staff in the Jordanian Public Universities on Modifying Students' Behavior: A Field Study in the Northern Region of Jordan

This study aims first to identify the leadership style which is used the most by the instructors in the Jordanian
universities, and second to examine the impact of three leadership styles (Autocratic, Laissez-Faire and
Democratic) on modifying student's behavior. The study population was the students studying at the faculty of
economics and administrative sciences in 3 public universities, at the north region of Jordan, a random sample
of students were selected. 600 questionnaires were distributed, 570 were analyzed. The results revealed that the
academic staffs working at the surveyed universities are using the democratic style. The findings of the simple
regression indicated that just the democratic leadership style had an impact on modifying students’ behavior.
